review is from: Watermelon for Everyone (Paperback)
"Watermelon
for Everyone" contains 36 pages of lively illustrations while describing the
life cycle of watermelon. The book is set up into 3 sections: Section One is the
basic manuscript of the book that gives facts and information about watermelon.
Section Two contains non-cook recipes for fun things the family can do together.
Section Three contains lesson plans written many years ago by Woodward and used
in her classrooms. "I know the lesson plans work really well," said Woodward,
"since I used them year after year with hundreds of children." Woodward's lesson
plans also list the skills taught with each lesson. This book would be great for
all teachers.

Nearly
everyone likes watermelon, and I think that most anyone will enjoy this book.
How interesting to read about the square-shaped melons grown in Japan! I look
forward to tasting some of creative recipes, like the one for watermelon pie! It
will make a lovely gift.

Ms.
Woodward is a well-known fixture to the writing scene in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Her book "Knoxville's Sunsphere: Biography of a Landmark," is a one-of-a-kind
source of research about Knoxville's iconic building and now she has done it
again with the topic of watermelon. As is typical of her method, she did
exhaustive research into one of the world's most popular foods. You can't go
wrong with this book. It will bring knowledge to your brain and a smile to your
face. The book also includes recipes and lesson plans-truly something for
everyone.

As a school
teacher and as a parent, I found "Watermelon for Everyone" to be a wonderful
addition to my daughter's collection of books. She has truly enjoyed the
colorful illustrations and she has told everyone about square
watermelons. It is certainly obvious that Ms. Woodward comes from an educational background (she's a retired school teacher) since the book has lesson plans and several non-cook recipes for students of all ages. These projects are great for those rainy days when children are cranky.

Co-workers
at the Knoxville Journal Newspaper, Martha Rose Woodward, writer, and Pat
Griffeth, production manager and graphic artist, teamed up to create a
delightful book. Releasing "Watermelon for Everyone" has been the culmination of
a journey that began with a conversation they had one day at work. Griffeth was
explaining to Woodward how she had always wanted to illustrate a book and
Woodward said she had always wanted to write one. It was kind of like that old
commercial when chocolate and peanut butter meet and make a new candy
bar.We can be glad they did make this book; it is colorful, a fun read and has history along with recipes. I love books of all kinds and this is one I am happy to own.

"Watermelon
for Everyone" contains 38 pages and is divided into sections that contain
history, recipes and lesson plans. It was written by a retired school teacher
from Knoxville, Tennessee and it would have been fun to be in her classroom with
lessons that end with: "Each student may now eat the watermelon."The Northside Kiwanis Club selected this book to give to a local school's library. This book would make a nice gift for birthdays and Christmas, too. It is colorful and informative, while teaching many skills, but not with an "in-your-face" style.

The author
of this great book took the best of all the worlds...fun,educational,
recipes, history, pop quizes, practical uses and how to's and turned this book
into a wonderful fun book on watermelons. She has to be a teacher to put it all
together like this. It is one of the first books that I have seen that
encompasses everything to get one's attention. A MUST READ for everyone whether
you like watermelons or not. A Watermelon Smoothie??? WOW!!Who would ever have
thought of this? A great read for all ages from 8 up!!!

I bought
several copies of the "Watermelon for Everyone" to give to my grandchildren.
But, I believe I enjoyed it just as much as them. It was full of interesting
information that I did not know about watermelons. And since watermelons are one
of my favorite fruits, I liked knowing their history. I would give an A+ to
Woodward for a well written book. It would be a good book for schools to have in
their library or even have as suggested reading to help motivate children to
enjoy reading.
