Makes me hungry just thumbing through the pages of this delightful book. Watermelon is for everyone. Rarely does anybody say they do not just love watermelon.

Thanks to Martha and Patricia for producing something positive and sweet in a world torn with too much negativity.

You can certainly tell a school teacher had something to do with this book. It is well-organized, has fun activities for students of all ages and it teaches us a thing or two about watermelon. I especially enjoyed making Watermelon Lemonade--what a great treat!

5.0 out of 5 stars Educational & Fun, September 1, 2013
This review is from: Watermelon for Everyone (Paperback)
Woodward said that when she was working on this book, she wanted it to be something that could be used as a teaching tool by parents and teachers. She met this goal and more as this book begins with colorful photos of the various kinds of watermelons and takes children through the life cycle of watermelon as it goes from tiny seeds to plants that develop into something wonderful to eat.

"Watermelon for Everyone" contains 36 pages and is divided into 3 sections: Section One is the basic manuscript of the book that gives facts and information about watermelon. Section Two contains non-cook recipes for fun things the family can do together. Section Three contains lesson plans written many years ago by Woodward and used in her classrooms. Martha says she knows the lesson plans work really well since she used them year after year with hundreds of children.

This book will make a lovely gift for that special person.

5.0 out of 5 stars What the Angels Eat . . ., September 4, 2013
This review is from: Watermelon for Everyone (Paperback)
Mark Twain once said, "When one has tasted watermelon he knows what the angels eat." It is true and after reading "Watermelon for Everyone", it is easy to understand why. In this delightful book, Martha Woodward lovingly shares all kinds of useful and entertaining information about all aspects of the watermelon. What a joyful read. Like the watermelon, this book is for everyone.

Woodward, a retired school teacher, says she has had the book in mind for several years, but needed an illustrator. “It was a conversation with Pat about how she reads books to her grandchildren that led us to a discussion about my manuscript,” said Woodward. “It popped into my mind to ask Pat to come on board as the illustrator. It was like that commercial when peanut butter meets chocolate and makes Reese's Cups. Our skills blended together really well. Little did I know that Pat had been dreaming about illustrating a book.”

Watermelon for Everyone is an informational book that can be used as an instructional tool for parents and teachers. Woodward says she wanted children to know that a melon begins as a seed. “I think boys and girls need to understand where food comes from,” said Woodward. “I wanted them to know that a tiny seed holds the beginning of life. I hope they will become interested in gardening. I wanted everyone to know that watermelon can be used in recipes as both a sweet and a savory.”

The book is published by Amazon CreateSpace and is available at www .amazon.com The book cost $12.00 at area book stores or from the internet. An autographed copy can be purchased from the author by sending an e mail to Sunspherebook @aol.com or phoning 865 951 0319..
