No SEW book bags; easy peasy

 Use a colorful tee shirt.
Cut one end to make fringe.
Pull the cloth until it stretches and tie the ends.
Cut 2 holes in the top and tie off strips of cloth to make handles.
NO SEW and it holds together really well.
